Summer Drinks: Lavender Lemonade

By now we all know that lavender is the new thing. We use it in decor, in a vase, in a pot, on your walls, in perfumes, on your cookies, in your sugar, you name it. I have to admit I am on board with this trend, I love it and I can't resist it.

I made lavender cookies in the past, I loved them  although not everybody does. This is why I hesitated for so long to try and use lavender in drinks, because if the taste comes out to intense and more on the bitter side, nobody else would enjoy it but me. The only thing that made me want to try it was the secret hope that my drink will turn out pink or purple. IT DIDN'T. :(( I've seen that some people made it pink, it didn't happen to me. But the taste of the lavender syrup... it was amazing!!! Who cares about colour anymore?

Summer Drinks: Flavored Ice Cubes

Source
It seems summer is all over us these days, it's getting so hot you just wanna live underwater or in a fridge.
Summer drink will help us get through though. Previously I showed you some ideas to flavor your ice cubes to get a refresing cold coffee/ mik drink. Below you have 3 alternatives for your lemonades, ice tea or fizzy water.

This time I added mint, lavender flowers and grapefruit juice.

You just have to fill an ice cube tray with water or lemonade and then add mint leaves or lavender flowers. For the pink grapefruit one, my favorite, just fill the tray with grapefruit juice with or without the pulp, however you like it.

Here is an example of some fizzy with the grapefruit cubes. You really feel like in a spa and the effort is minimum.

Mrs.G. Mixes (1): Vodka Soda with Grapefruit

We posted a photo on Instagram, announcing this post, basically a drink post, so here it is.
For the first alcohol cocktail presented on this  blog, we tried to keep things simple and show a easy peasy one, that would actually go perfect with  our passion for Italian food, proven numerous times on youvegotmeal blog.

This drink is awesome because it has no sugar added, so you won't wake up with a headache the next morning, is really simple so it is most likely all of your guest will enjoy and it does not require special bartending skills.

In a glass with ice cubes pour around 50 ml vodka, then add sparkling water until you fill the glass. San Pellegrino would work great, I couldn't find it simple, without flavours and I couldn't resist this limited edition Perrier by Andy Warhol. Of course you can use any sparkling water, don't judge my snobbish moment, we all have those.

After you added the water, add a splash of grapefruit juice, just a splash, don't make it all about the grapefruit. Garnish the glass with a generous piese of mint and you're done.

I find the mint extremely important in this drink, it adds freshness and makes it more suitable for summer and for light meals. You have to try it!

Cheers,
Mrs. G.

Summer Drinks: Special Ice Cubes for Cold Milk/ Coffee/ Chocolate Drinks

These little cold things are meant to impress your guest, to add more style to your drinks while also chilling them, which makes them perfect for summer.

Yesterday I tried 3 versions perfect for milk or coffee based drinks and also found out how difficult it is to take pictures of ice cubes without them melting instantly :

  1. For the first one, I just prepared a hot chocolate, let it cool down and filled 3/4 of the ice cube tray, the added some marshmallow pieces. Needless to say that this will go perfectly with "hot chocolate" but also with milk if you just want to give it a subtle sweet flavour.
  2. For the second one I just pourred cold milk until I reached half of  the tray, froze it until it sets then added chocolate or cocoa milk on top then froze it again. This creates a simple, but good-looking pattern. Also, my ice tray it is not actually for cubes litterary, because the bottom is not flat. But with a normal square bottom this method will be even more effective.
  3. The last one, the chocolate chip ice cube might be a great surpirse for your guests or kids, because when it melts in your drink, you get a chocolate chip. Who doesn't love chocolate chips? Just pour some milk, sweetened or unsweetened, then add a chocolate chip on top on each cube.
Making this was a lot of fun, I think they look great and there are many more possibilities. I hope will cool you off this  summer!

xo,
Mrs. G.
